5 Days Of Valentines Day Crafts...Day 5

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Can you feel the love yet people?! I know I do ;)

Today I have not one, but TWO crafts for you. Why? Because I may have a gone little over board and tried enough Valentines crafts to fill up at least a week! Don't worry though. Maybe I'll save those for next year ;)

Valentines Day 5: Homemade (heart shaped) crayons and personalized candy bar wrappers.

Homemade Crayons.

What you'll need:

Crayons. If you're anything like me then you have a plethora of broken, used crayons just laying around your dinning room floor.

Heart shaped mini muffin pan, candy mold, or silicone tray.

First, preheat your over to 275 degrees.

Next, peel and break the crayons into small pieces. My kids loved helping with this part!
Then fill up the your pan or candy mold with the broken pieces. Make sure you have a good mix of colors in each cup.

Place the pan on a cookie sheet and into the preheated oven for 10-12 min. or until they're melted. *I watched them like a hawk*

Remove the pan and place it in the fridge for about 10 min. to cool.

When they've completely cooled they should just pop right out of the pan.
I used these to make my gang little Valentines that said "You color my world." They've been making pretty rainbow pictures ever since.

Personalized Candy Bar Wrapper.

What you'll need:

1.55 oz. Hershey bars

Candy bar wrapper template I used this one.

Scrapbook paper and stickers

This one was really easy! I loved the fact that I could personalize each wrapper for each kid. I'm going to keep the template to use again later for gifts and party favors.

First, I printed out the template and traced it onto scrapbook paper then cut it out.

Next, I decorated each wrapper with stickers and ribbon.

Then I wrapped the bars and closed up the back with a bit of tape.

I loved making these crafts with and for my little Valentines. Seeing them get excited about each gift was worth every minute I spent making them.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

5 Days Of Valentines Day Crafts...Day 4

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

This craft was both me and the kid's favorite! They could not wait until I was finished making them and when I was done they didn't want to let me borrow them just to take a few pictures.

Valentines Day 4: Love Note Pillow

Things you'll need:

A small pillow (You could make your own or use something you already have)

Fleece (Enough to cover your pillow)

A sheet of felt.

I had some pillows laying around the house (probably left over from some old bedding sets)

If you ever had a home economics class then you know how easy it is to make a pillow. It's even easier to put a new cover on one :)

Before I sewed close the last side of the new cover I cut out a heart shape out of the felt and sewed it onto the front.

Using some leftover fleece I sewed a little pocket onto the heart.
*You could just make the heart the pocket. My boys asked for more army and less red*

Lastly, I put the pillow into it's new case and sewed it close.

The pocket on the pillows are for leaving little love note for your Valentines :) My gang couldn't wait to receive their first love note. When I gave Logan his note he gave me one back. It said, "Mom I love you."

Houston, who can't read, just laid in his bed and kept saying, "Mommy I love my love note."
And then my heart melted :)

Only one day left. Come back for Day 5 and see the two crafts that will finish off the series.

5 Days Of Valentines Day Crafts...Day 3

Day 1

Day 2

I saw a lot of ideas for Valentines Day crafts that were one and done. I wanted at least a couple of the ones that I chose to last longer than the time it takes for my gang to down a couple of rice crispy treats :)

Valentines Day 3: I Love You More Than...

We've played a game with our kids since Ethan(10) was just a baby. We say, "I love you more than..." and fill it in with whatever comes to mind. Puppies, Chuck E. Cheese, summer days, etc. Then the other person tells us what they love us more than and it goes back and forth. Corny, I know. But sweet! So when I saw this idea online I knew it would make a perfect gift for my kids. Even if your Valentines are older, any excuse to tell them how much you love them is a good one, right?

Things you'll need:

5x7 frame *If I were going to make this again I might try using a bigger frame*

Dry erase marker

Access to a printer

Red card stock paper

Because I'm not familiar with Microsoft Paint or Word, it took me forever to figure out how to get the words "I *space for heart* you more than" printed out to fit into my 5x7 frame. It was really trial and error. So on that part...you're on your own people :)

After I finally got my paper printed out the way I wanted it (it took me 3 times) I cut a heart shape out of card stock and glued it in the space between "I" and "You".

Then I just put the finished paper into the 5x7 frame and that was that!

As you can see, this craft was SUPER easy and didn't take long at all. I made this thinking that I would put them on the kid's dressers and fill them in as a message from me. But my sweet little Valentines like to take over and write creative things like basically any bathroom word that their little minds can think of. Aren't they just precious?

Day 4 may just be me and my kid's favorite! Come back and check it out!

5 Days Of Valentines Day Crafts...Day 2

On Day 1 the kids helped me make this Valentines Day Heart Wreath.  It was cute, but my boys weren't as excited about it as Evelyn was. You know...with all the pink and "girlie" hearts. Whatever...

Valentines Day 2: Sweets For My Sweets

The quickest way to a man's heart...Or 3 little boy's, is through their stomaches.

Things you'll need to make these sweets are:

1 batch of homemade rice crispy treats. We used this recipe.

A heart shaped cookie cutter.

1 container of Pillsbury Valentine's Funfetti frosting.

Melted chocolate *For drizzling*

First, the boys helped me make the Rice Crispy treats. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I had never made them before :/ The amount of marshmallows the recipe called for didn't seem to be enough so we added a few more. You can never have too many marshmallows, right?

When those were done we used the heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out some hearts and then just cut the rest into squares.

Then we frosted half of the treats with the pink frosting and left the rest without.

Lastly we decorated the treats with the sprinkles that came with the frosting (I used some red sprinkles we had in the cupboard too) and I melted some chocolate that we drizzled on the tops.

Now when I say we decorated I mean that they gang helped decorate a few. After Evelyn dumped a half container of red sprinkles onto one of the treats, I had to distract them with leftover marshmallows so I could finish the rest :)

Can you spot the one with a little extra red sprinkles?
My little Valentines loved these treats and couldn't wait to share them with my favorite Valentine! Their Daddy.

Day 3 is a craft that would make a good gift for even the older Valentines on your list. Come back and check it out :)

5 days Of Valentines Day Crafts... Day 1

About a month ago I came up with the idea of trying to make Valentine's Day a week long celebration with some sort of homemade gift/treat for my gang each day. This was a challenge in a few different ways. The main one was cost! With my husband going all Dave Ramsey on me, my amount spent on each day's gift had to be kept low. Finding ideas was another problem. I spent a lot of time looking on-line and in magazines for ideas that I really loved and thought my kids would too.

Speaking of kids, keeping the gifts a secret from them was...well, impossible! Have you ever tried making baked goods without your kids noticing? As soon as I turned the oven to pre-heat they were all gathered around to see what Momma was up to and fighting over who would get to lick the spoon when I was done! That's when I had to adjust my plan a little bit. Instead of me staying up working through the night like a little elf or something, I decided to turn it into a family thing and let my gang help with the projects.

We've had a good time this past week or so putting these crafts together. I really hope that you can use one or tow of the ideas for your special little Valentines or that maybe I can help spark a few ideas of your own :)

Valentines Day 1: Heart wreath

What is a week long Valentine's celebration without some decoration?!  We got the party started with this cute heart wreath.

All you need is (12) 2x11 inch strips of scrapbook paper, (Double sided is best) tape, and a little ribbon.
Fold the (12) 2x11 strips of paper in half.

Join the edges of each strip together forming a heart shape and tape in place.
After you've finished making all the hearts tape them all together (you could also use something like glue dots but tape is cheaper) forming an oval shape.

Cut your ribbon to the desired length.  This is what will connect the nail or hook to the craft.

Thread ribbon between two hearts and tie the end in a knot. I left three hearts between where I threaded the other end of the ribbon and tied another knot.

And that's it! Super easy and cute!

Now just hang up your Valentines Day wreath and listen to your kids whine about how it should go on their bedroom door because they helped with the taping...Oh wait! That was just my kid. ;)

Day 2 is going to be a treat almost as sweet as my little Valentines. Come back and check it out!
